Tanning Preparation and Facts
|
We receive a lot of questions
regarding airbrush tanning. Over 75% of all people
who receive an airbrush tan have never
received one before, so it is necessary to educate
you so you can prepare for the best tan ever. We will
start out with a few faqs, then give you info pre-tan
preparation and
post tan care.

Pre-Tan
Preparation
- Start hydrating your
skin at least seven days before
your appointment (see products below). If you
use drug store lotions,
they are less likely to hydrate
your skin as well as a tanning salon hydrating
lotion.
- Exfoliate
your entire body with
exfoliation wipes or a nice sea salt scrub, (both
can
be purchased at the salon), before the
airbrush tan.
Using a loofah alone is not proper exfoliation.
- Refrain
from using moisturizer at least four hours before the tan.
- For women, make sure to shave
your underarms and legs before your session.
- Remove
your makeup and deodorant before your session.
If you are not properly prepared for the airbrush tan,
the technician reserves the right to cancel your appointment and
you will be charged
the full amount.
 
Total Immersion - Recommended
Pre-Tan Moisturizer - start using a week before
your session if you have really dry skin.
Amber Sun Coral Sea Salt
Scrub - Use
24 hours before sunless application
for best results.

Appointment
attire and post-tan attire
- Women
can wear a bathing suit or just
a thong.
- Men
must wear at least boxers,
shorts or swimming trunks.
- Make
sure the garments you
wear to be sprayed in are not
your best clothing. If wearing a swimsuit,
make sure it is an old one.
- We
will provide a shower cap for
the hair.
- Bring flip-flops to
wear home. Or if you can, drive
home barefoot.
- Stick
to loose fitting clothing for
the ride home. We
advise against wearing a bra immediately afterward.

Post-tan
care and facts
- Wait
at least 8 hours to shower or get wet. If
your appointment is late in the day, you
can wait until the next morning
- Avoid
sweating at all costs. If you sweat
profusely before you shower, you do risk
the chance of the bronzer coming off.
- .The
cosmetic bronzer will wash off when you
shower. This is not your tan. This
gave you an instant look of tanned skin.
After you get out
of the shower, you will see your airbrushed
tan which is a result of the proteins in
your skin reacting to the chemicals in the
airbrush solution.
- Wait
at least 24 hours to start tanning outdoors
or in a tanning bed.
- The
more you expose yourself to water
and exercise,
the less chance your tan will last the full
seven to 10 days. We recommend avoiding the
hot tub until near the end of your
tan.
- Indoor
tanning prior to your sunless application,
can boost your results. At our
northwest location, you can pay
an additional $14 for a single tan in the
standup unit before your session. Pleasearrive
an additional 20 minutes early for signing
up and tanning in the standup unit.
- Sunless
tanning does
not protect against harmful UV rays, ,
so you need to protect yourself from harmful
UV
rays
when
you sun bathe. We carry a nice line of
SPF lotions in our salon.
- Use
soap-free body wash. For instance, the California
Tan body wash is perfect PH-balanced with zinc
to help extend the tan.
- Use
a tan extender to even out the skin
when the tan starts to fade. We recommend
using California
Tan Sunless Extender with bronzers. It
also has zinc in it to help optimize the tanning
results.
- Do
not use any products with mineral oil, or
baby oil, such
as Dove products.
- Refrain
from using self-tan extenders from your local
retail store. These can actually
ruin your sunless results as you would be
mixing two
different types and colors.

We also carry the California
Tan Enhancing AfterGlow. It is a bronzing, shimmer spray which
has hints of glitter in it and darkens your skin even more. This is
great to wear right before a party or a special event.

What
is an airbrush spray tan? Airbrush
tanning is a nice lopressure spray
from an airbrush spray gun applied
by a technician. It coats your
body with bronzed DHA that reacts to
the proteins in your skin to develop
a tanned
look within 6
to 8 hours.
How
long does it last? From five to
10 days depending upon your skin condition,
skin tone,
exposure to water. As you approach the end
of the first week, the tan starts to fade.
Like with natural
tanning, indoor and outdoor, the more moisture
that is already in your skin, the longer
your tan will last.
How
is it differ from spray booth tanning (aka
Mystic Tan)? Many of our clients will tell
you what a relief custom airbrush tanning
is over the traditional spray tan booth. For one, there
is no unevenness in the application and the
excess isn't found on your feet and hands and secondly,
there is no orange.
How
does your system compare to others in the
industry? We amaze clients everyday
with the quickness of our system. You are dry
by the time we are done spraying you and
there is no
overspray. If we use the contouring gun, though,
expect some overspray.
Will
it get on my carpet, tile, flooring or walls
on a mobile appointment? No, we have
a unique covering system that does not allow
this to happen.
No, you don't have to stand in a dark, black
tent to be sprayed. We do most of our residential
sprays
in kitchens, foyers or bathrooms.
Will
it turn me orange? This is our
No. 1 question and the No. 1 fear of those thinking
about getting an airbrush tan. Unlike self-tanners
and spray
booth tanning, the DHA does not turn orange when it
is applied via airbrush.
Can you correct a bad Mystic tan? Yes, we can. Just scrub as much
of the Mystic tan away as possible before your airbrush appointment.
Can
you correct tan lines or sunburn? Because
tan lines are caused by the sun, we cannot exfoliate
them away. With our system, we spray over the
entire body, so obviously, the tan lines won't
be white
anymore, but there is no guarantee that the part
which goes over the tan lines will be as dark
as your tanned skin. With sunburns, we do ask
that
you do not exfoliate the part of your skin that
is sunburned as we cannot effectively tan your
peeling skin.
Does
it streak or rub off on my clothing? The
airbrush tan does not streak as long as you follow
the directions. You must wait at least six hours, preferably over eight
hours to shower. Avoid any activity which would
cause you to sweat profusely and avoid
getting wet before you shower. If you have your
airbrush tan done in the afternoon or evening,
make sure you shower before 10am the next morning. Avoid
wearing silk, wool and rayon clothing right after
your spray tan as it may stain it. Once you have
showered, the cosmetic bronzer is gone and nothing
will rub off on your clothing. Our solutions
dry before your session is over so there is very
little chance that the product will rub off on
your clothing.
Can
I get a sunless tan on my wedding day? We
now use a special solution for weddings and same-day
events that the Hollywood stars use before they
go on stage, thanks to our friend, Monica,
who owns Colour-Couture,
a salon that has tanned stars before the Oscars.
